The Cellular Jail, also known as “Kala Pani,” was a British colonial prison in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, used to exile political prisoners and freedom fighters during the Indian independence movement,, and is now a national memorial. Construction began in 1896 and was completed in 1906, with a unique starfish-shaped design featuring seven wings radiating from a central watchtower.
